The Committee

The Committee is made up of annually elected members of the club every January, each with their own goals and responsibilities. You can find each of their profiles below.

Jehan Pieris

President - 2022

Having moved from the corporate sector, Jehan (aka Je) turned his hobby into a profession by becoming a PADI Instructor. In addition to scuba diving, Je is also a swim style correction coach with many years of perusing better techniques to efficient swimming.


"As rewarding and challenging it may be, my heart is toward research, teaching and conservation".


An old boy of the school, he joined the club in 2007 as a training officer to help with the increasing number of students.

A BSAC member from the 1970', Je is in the process of crossing over to being a BSAC OW instructor.

Yohan Abeyesekera

Diving Officer - 2022

A fulltime corporate employee who devotes time to teaching scuba diving as a volunteer at his alma mater in the capacity of Diving Officer/Instructor since December 2001.

"Scuba diving has always been a fascination to me ever since I watched 'The Undersea World of Jacques Cousteau' TV series, an epic, decade-spanning odyssey like no other that captivated me in the mid 80’s".


He joined the STCSAC in October of 1993, that made his dream of undersea exploration come true a year later.


On taking over the training and administration of the STCSAC in 2001 as a training officer, he continues the traditions instilled in him by his predecessors to produce safe, competent divers for the future.

Jason Senanayake

Secretary - 2022

A final year BSc International Business Management student is also enrolled at FitsAir Flight Academy, pursuing another childhood dream of being a commercial pilot.

An old boy of the school, he joined the club in February of 2015 and was privileged to be the last president of the Sub-Aqua Club of 2016 and 1st Captain of the SCUBA Diving Unit in the years 2017/18.


"My love for SCUBA was born through my love for adventure and interest in the World Wars, which left many shipwrecks around the world. I always dreamed of exploring and locating shipwrecks that are yet to be found to date. The HMAS Vampire, sunk of the coast of Batticaloa being one such wreck".


Jason is also a volunteer training officer with the club and works with students in the snorkel diver programme.

Rashminda Kurukulasuriya

Treasurer - 2022

Rashminda AKA Kula; is a Seafarer, Navigation Officer Cadet, sitting for his class III deck officer exam this year.


Also an old boy of the school, Joined the STCSAC in 2009 and is a past President of 2012/13. Further to his training he qualified as a PADI Advanced Open Water Diver in 2014.


"The love for diving started as a hobby of collecting sea shells washed up on the beach, inspired by Dr. Malik Fernando whose knowledge is unparalleled in diving and Marine Molluscs".
